First glimpse...

We had our first appointment today, to confirm the pregnancy. And confirmed it was! I heard its heartbeat, and saw the tiny little blob, measuring 3.8mm, via internal ultrasound.

As I thought, I ovulated earlier than usual so while my LMP says I should be 6 weeks pregnant, I am closer to 7 (yay!). Dr Katayama said he'll be able to confirm my due date at my next appointment in 2-3 weeks, but I suspect it will be around 26 January. We'll have to wait and see!

Billy and Nug came with me to the hospital, and there was a newborn in the waiting room, crying that unmistakeable newborn baby cry, and Billy was a little unnerved by it. First he seemed concerned, then he became frightened and just wanted to sit on my lap and watch. I'm sure it won't take him long to get used to it, come January. We bumped into the Hills as we were leaving the hospital, so there was absoloutely no hiding it. Busted!

It seems silly that, about a week ago, I was concerned because I wasn't 'feeling' pregnant, when I should have known better. Here I am today, struggling to eat, drink, and basically, function. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'd prefer labour and delivery over this any day.

So, that's the latest! We're pretty excited and it feels even more real now that it has all been seen and heard.

5 weeks 5 days

Just thought I'd post a quick picture of the belly today. I'm wondering if this baby belly will show alot quicker than with Billy. That's the rumour with second pregnancies! No one could tell I was pregnant til I was about 6 months last time. I feel there's a fair bit of bloat, especially by the evening.

Not long til my appointment now! And nausea is in full swing, though I'm still not throwing up yet. I'm trying to get as much good food in now as possible in case I am violently ill again! This included Baskin & Robbins choc chip cookie dough ice cream last night. Yes, I know I'm not meant to eat it (the cookie dough has raw eggs) but it was delicious!

Oh, and I took another test today to make sure that I was going to the doctor for a reason on Wednesday morning. Still pregnant!

5 weeks 2 days

Nausea has really started to kick in today. I haven't actually been sick, but it has been lingering all day and I am quite tired aswell. I hope this is not the start of how I was when I was pregnant with Billy! He was such a little trooper today. He played happily with all of his new toys from his birthday yesterday, stopping occasionally to give me a quick cuddle or cheeky smile.

I also started researching a few things that I will need to get to cope with a newborn and a toddler. (A nanny?!) Our Bugaboo won't suffice when the baby is born, so I have been looking at the new Phil & Teds Verve, that can fit a newborn/toddler and a toddler/little person. Pretty cool contraption!

At this stage, we are thinking I will have the baby here in Japan. Nug won't be able to get the time off work to go back to Australia, and I don't want our little family to be apart for months. We will, however, discuss it in more detail as the pregnancy progresses. So, for a bit of fun, I had a look at bedding options, as we won't really have the space for the baby to have its own room. To protect against SIDS, they recommend sleeping in the same room as parents for the first 6-12 months, so I'm happy with that anyway! This is made by the divine 'Sleepi Spaces'.

If we have a boy, there's honestly not much else we need to get! If we have a girl, look out. It's still so early but I'm already playing the name game in my head. I wonder if we will just talk about the names we talked about last time, or whether some new ones will be thrown in the ring?
